Bokhara also known as “Bukhara” and “Bukhoro” has adopted its name from the 5th largest city in Uzbekistan, Bukhara Province. This type of rug has become a common bartered commodity in exchange of other goods in cities including Bokhara.

Bokharas are among the most well-known and in demand type of rugs and carpets because of their softness and luxuriousness. Woven by master weavers using the Pahmina wool, a large production of Bokharas can be found in the city of Lahore in Pakistan. Iran, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and other Caucasian countries are some other countries that make hand knotted Bokhara rugs mostly designed in circular patterns with the underneath colored in red.
